Pinup 101: The Basics - How To Maintain A Perfect Ten

Sometimes, I'm like Alice from Alice in Wonderland, always giving good advice but never following it. Right now is one of those times. However, I do follow this routine sometimes regularly to keep a perfect ten manicure and I'll probably return to it once moving furniture, caulking the room, and other house maintenance chores come to a halt - not soon enough!

How do I maintain a perfect ten?
I rarely go have my nails done. I both hate and enjoy the experience. I enjoy the pampering part but feel awkward making small talk with the technician, having my hands held hostage in plastic bags of lotion, and then waiting forever under lights for my hands to dry. Instead, I often opt for the home method.

  1. Soak your nails in a bowl of warm water. Alternatively, you can replace this step with bathing/showering as the cuticles will soften while you bathe.
  2. Using an orange stick, push back excess cuticle.
  3. Carefully trim using cuticle nippers.
  4. Trim your nails if needed, otherwise shape with a file.
After filing, if you prefer you can paint your nails or leave them be, but a manicure is simple enough to do weekly to maintain nice nails. Additionally, if your hands are dry you can use this time to do an exfoliating scrub and moisturize at the end of the manicure. With weekly maintenance your hands will be in tip top shape!

What are some of your favorite tips/tricks for at home manicures? What do you do in a pinch?

Miss Liz
