The Pinup Press: Symco Shakedown #7

Slightly less than two weeks ago, James and I went to the most anticipated car show of our season - the Symco Shakedown! Located in idyllic Symco, Wisconsin on a lot of land with little buildings and houses resembling a town - the Symco Shakedown is the coolest show around! A 3 to 4 day car show that is said to be "summer camp for hot rodders" is quite an accurate description. We went last year, arriving on the first day for pre-registration, set up our tents and then were wowed by the awesome party and relaxed atmosphere of the Shakedown.

This year's show was heavily anticipated. I prepared well in advance making pasta salad to take as well as a list of other items - we even got a larger tent. We waited all summer for this show! Unfortunately, the first day of the show rained so hard - turning the grounds into a mud pit - but we didn't let that stop us! We were able to set up our campsite in between rain showers and on the second day the sun came out, blazing down on us. I have an accidental  tan from the show.

On Saturday, the day of no rain, James and I headed out with Kelsey and Adam to look at the swap meet (it's huge!), browse the vendors (I got a dress!), and check out Carmen Lee and the Tomorrow River Two playing out by the swap meet. James and I missed the first half of the show, but got there just in enough time for Carmen to take a break (Yay! We got to hang out for a bit) and then commence the second half in which she sang all my favorite songs! I understand "The Butcher" might be a stretch for some people but I really enjoy that song!

After the concert, we headed back to our campsite for dinner - Symco has many food vendors but that can get expensive in a hurry so James and I were prepared this year. We took a break around the campsite for a bit and then headed back to the show because Saturday night is when all the bands play! We caught a band in the barn and then much later a surf band in the middle of the main street. Amazingly, I stayed up past my bedtime but crashed as soon as I could. What a show!

Interested in attending next year's Symco Shakedown? Dates for next year haven't been posted as of yet but check the Symco Shakedown website for details. For this year, the passes were per day and there was an option of purchasing a weekend pass as well. James and I attended the Shakedown for $100 - camping ($50) and admission ($25 per adult) are included in this cost - not bad for a 3 to 4 day car show with friends. The wristband/admission gets you into the show which includes all the bands - all day(s)!
